There’s a lot of buzz around the city of Winnipeg with the launch of its new CEBL basketball team. Thanks to the Seabears, and Chad Posthumus, Winnipeg is talking about basketball for the first time in years!

Standing at 6 foot 11, 275 lbs, Chad makes his presence known and it’s no surprise he’s a force on the court.

However, many people would think that he’s great because he’s tall, but once you have the chance to see him play, you can tell that he put in serious work to become an incredibly skilled player.

Chad started playing basketball at the age of 10, but he didn’t realize he was really good until he was 16 years old. Just a couple of years later, during his senior year in high school, he led the nation in scoring with 37 points per game, and a massive 23 rebounds per game.

After high school, he played NCAA Division 1 basketball and was top 5 in rebounds, and played in the NBA summer league for the Chicago Bulls. He even travelled the world playing for different teams in Japan, China, Uruguay, Argentina, and Mexico.

One of Chad’s greatest accomplishments though is when he had the honour of representing Team Canada. He played for the country in the World Cup, the Ameri-Cup games, and numerous other tournaments.

But, the reason he is being talked about now is because of his career in the CEBL and Winnipeg finally having a team again.

He made a name for himself in the CEBL and across the nation after winning the championship with the Saskatchewan Rattlers in 2019. From there he played with the Ottawa Blackjacks.

But now, finally, in 2023, Chad earned the opportunity to come and play for his hometown when the Winnipeg Seabears were born.

Posthumus would love nothing more than to bring the championship home to Winnipeg in the next season. Having seen the team play myself, I can confidently say they have what it takes to win it all.

The competitive nature of basketball might be what he loves most and considering all that he’s accomplished, it’s safe to say that his competitiveness has paid off.

Now that Chad is in the second half of his professional career the question is what will he do next?

After he’s brought the trophy home to Winnipeg, Posthumus would love to keep playing in the CEBL and Internationally for at least another 5 years.

Throughout his career, because Chad played in different countries, he had the opportunity to make incredible friends across the world. It’s one of the perks of playing basketball that he’s extremely grateful for. To be able to continue playing Internationally, while playing in the CEBL, for Posthumus, is the perfect mix.

When he’s done playing professionally though, his goal is to become the GM of a basketball team. It would be his pleasure to be able to give back to the basketball community, coach the youth, and contribute where he can to the sport in general.

Chad is truly passionate about basketball, and it’s more than just about playing the sport.

He specifically wanted to play for his hometown so he could help grow his love for the game locally. On top of that, he can help the “up and coming” players have a shot at playing professionally as well.

So what makes Chad Far From Ordinary?

Aside from the fact that he’s 6 foot 11, is an incredible basketball player and an all-around great guy… Chad has done what many of us have dreamt of doing. He doubled down on what he was good at, chased his passion, and made a name for himself doing it.

Chad is without a question, Far From Ordinary.
